Review by Manon Palit-Rodway

The book Celwydd Noeth by Heiddwen Tomos follows the story of a high school girl called Gwen after a nude photo of her was scattered to the rest of the school. This book is a sequel to the book Heb Law Mam by Heiddwen Tomos which follows the story of a girl from Gwen’s class, Eva, as her mother battles cancer. Celwydd Noeth extends the story of Eva and her boyfriend Cai but also shows the perspective of different characters from the school community such as Gwen and the children’s registration teacher Mr. Llew. This sequence teaches us that people do not always know what they are dealing with and not to judge other people before we get to know them.

I would recommend this book to teenage girls as it deals with themes and experiences that are very relevant to people of that age and gender specifically. But there are a lot of dark themes in this book so I wouldn’t recommend it to children 13 or younger to read it without their parents’ permission.

Personally, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. My favourite thing about the book was the characters of the teachers as I thought it was very realistic and reminded me of my own teachers at school.
